Mariposa Grove | Yosemite National Park

by dpadmin

Since we had a 7 day pass to Yosemite National Park, we decided to do another day trip there. This time we visited the Mariposa Grove, which is the southernmost part of Yosemite National Park. Mariposa Grove is the largest grove of giant sequoias in the park.

Due to the pandemic there is no shuttle service at this time. It is a 2-mile uphill hike from the Mariposa Grove parking lot to Mariposa Grove and there are two options, you can either take Washburn Trail or the Mariposa Grove Road. Washburn trail is a narrow dirt road and it is also rocky so if you have a stroller I would recommend you walk Mariposa Grove Road.

Washburn Trail

On the way up we took Washburn Trail and it was a challenge with a stroller.

Mariposa Grove

Fallen Monarch

This giant sequoia fell more than three hundred years ago.

Grizzly Giant

The Grizzly Giant is about 3,000 years old and it is the 25th largest tree in the world.

California Tunnel Tree

The tunnel was carved in 1895 for coaches to pass through. Today, it is only a walk through tunnel, too small for a car to fit. However, when we visited Avenue of the Giants in Myers Flat, California, there were two trees we were able to drive through. One was Shine Drive-Thru Tree and the other was Big Tree Drive-Thru.

Mariposa Grove Road

This was the paved road we walked down to the parking lot, which was easier with a stroller. It is a 2-mile down hill walk with pockets of shades and no dust flying around!
